Board parts and peices

Okay this bit is for those of you who don't know, or simply just forget what some of the peices are called, and i got to admit i still forget some pieces sometimes.

Okay a board consists of:

  • A Deck
  • Pair of  trucks
  • Riser pads
  • King Pins
  • Nuts (Not bollocks)
  • Bearings
  • Wheels
  • Griptape

With this you should be able to put a deck together.

The Deck and Griptape: The deck is the board itself, the bit you stand on, they are usually made from laminated ply known as maple wood. A board is maulded into a particular shape, which is how the kicker (Nose and Tail) are made.

The Griptape is the sandpaper like stuff which is placed ontop of the board, this is used to grip the board, enabling to do tricks easier.

Trucks are not big things you see on the road, in this case there the matal casted pieces that connect the deck to the wheels without these you can't ride
Trucks come in all sorts of shapes sizes and colours these days, so it's good to test some out to see which you prefer ( i prefer small trucks that have low king pins) this makes it easy to grind.
The trucks are also used to turn the board by shifting your weight to the left or right, they can be loosend and tightend to change how much pressure you need to turn ( i prefer tighter trucks, i find it easier to balance during flip tricks like heelflips and shit) once again you'll have to test them yourself.

Wheels, bearings and washers

Wheels are obviously the things that roll on the ground, they come in different softnesses and are made from urethane, The softnesses and hardnesses make a difference when riding vert and street, but some people eventually decide which they prefer to use. Wheels come in different sizes measured in millemetres (mm)
There are also hollowed wheels for extra lightness and speed.

Bearings are the small metle pieces that fit tightly inside the wheels, They rest on the axle of the truck and allow the wheels to spin freely while still being firmly attached to the truck. Bearings come with an ABEC rating. Bearing spacers go in the center of the wheel and help keep stress off the bearings

Washers are little rings that sit between the outer bearing and the axle nut, and the inner bearing and the edge of the hangar. They too help reduce stress and pressure on the bearings.

Riser pads are the flexable peices of rubber that are placed under the trucks, this is to reduce the pressure of the trucks digging into your deck, without these you are more likely to get pressure cracks around the hardware (bolts/nuts)
